Yakuza Online brought the series to mobile platforms in Japan recently, but Toshihiro Nagoshi of SEGA may want it heading to the West
It hasn’t been long since SEGA released YakuzaOnline to mobile devices and PC. The free to download mobile game has already seen success in Japan and we may see it soon in the West with a localized version.
According to an interview with Otaquest and Exile Sekai, SEGA’s Toshihiro Nagoshi, the chief creative officer for SEGA and most recently the director for Judgment. According to the interview, Nagoshi says he would like to see YakuzaOnline be localized for the West but can’t promise anything. “I can’t promise anything either, but I’d like to eventually see Yakuza Online make its way to the West,” Nagoshi says.

For those unfamiliar with what YakuzaOnline exactly is, it’s a gacha-roll style mobile game that ditches the original protagonist for Ichiban Kasuga. The game revolves around collecting cards for your party to deal out damage, which queues in the different gacha rolls for SSR, SR, and R ranked units. Gameplay is pretty straight forward turn-based action, where each party member deals attacks in turn-based combat. It seems not too far off in comparison to a mobile game like Fate Grand/Order.

But since popular Japanese SEGA titles like Judgment can get the localization treatment, maybe we’re not far from seeing YakuzaOnline possibly getting a Western release.
